sew & stitch embroidery

Hi, it’s Lauren and I’m back with a book review! I am sure you will love the book I have chosen – Sew & Stitch Embroidery, by Alyssa Thomas. Plus, I wanted to get you excited because at the end of May we will be hosting a trunk show with a selection of finished projects from the book!

This is Alyssa’s first book and she is also the face behind the always popular Penguin & Fish embroidery kits which have been hot sellers since P&N opened.

Sew & Stitch Embroidery contains over 20 sewing and embroidery projects! Each project has a skill level to help you choose what is right for you. Alyssa shows you some basic sewing techniques, embroidery stitches and more – – I like to look for sewing and craft books that have helpful directions – not only do I like to improve my current skills I like to learn new ones – don’t you?

I picked the drawstring shoe bag project – I was even thinking it is a great Mother’s Day gift idea.

This project is a sewing level 2, and embroidery level 1,  Alyssa’s instructions made it very easy to follow along – even if you are new to stitching. She encourages creativity while using her illustrations as a foundation – her playful and fun illustrations are included as iron-on transfers for each project. I experimented with my own design – creating the perfect pair of ballet flats with hearts at the toe.

I was inspired a fabric we have at the shop from Robert Kaufman called – This & That by Ann Kelle. It was perfect as the bag lining.

After the embroidery, the construction and sewing of the bag were a breeze. Alyssa says that you’ll want to make them for every pair of shoes, and she is right! They are a must have for traveling!

Sew & Stitch Embroidery will stay on top of my book list! Not only does it work for all skill levels it combines two of my favorite crafts – sewing AND embroidery. The book includes a mix of home décor projects, stuffed toys, and even accessories! The photos and instructions make it a “seamless” crafting experience from start to finish!

Make sure to stop by the shop in person to check out the book and look out next month for details on the trunk show and for Alyssa as our featured guest for “In Your Stylish Craft Kit”.

xoxo Lauren
