Alt Summit NYC

Last week I was lucky to attend the first ever Alt Summit in NYC! I went with my friend Monica Lee from Smart Creative Women. It is always exciting to come back from an event and share all of the inspiring things I learn!

Alt Summit is a premiere business conference for design and lifestyle bloggers and creative entrepenuers to discuss all things “blogging and social media”. As much as Alt is a great platform for new ideas, innovation and inspiration, for me, Alt was all about connecting and collaborating!!!

The flagship Alt Summit is held in Salt Lake City, but this year the Alt team decided to offer an abbreviated version here in the big apple so lucky for me, I was able to run out of the shop for a while and attend.

They couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate location for the conference: the Martha Stewart offices and Martha Stewart even came to say hello!

Wednesday night kicked the conference off with an intimate dinner hosted by Joss & Mann and organized by Sunday Suppers in a chic loft in Brooklyn with a fabulous view and open kitchen – how amazing are these menus?

Thursday morning started bright and early with crafting and coffee hosted by the MSL craft department – I made this wooden bead necklace strung on neon lanyard – I am always up for a bit of D.I.Y!

The rest of the day was organized around panels and presentations from some of todays most creative and innovative bloggers and business owners. They shared their approach to blogging and social media with regards to their specific business. One of the most interesting panels included MSL editors Pilar Guzman, Lucinda Scala Quinn and Kevin Sharkey on “The Creative Process” – it reinforced how how Martha Stewart is the master in creativity and the magazine does just what they intend it to – inspire and instruct their readers!

I also took a lot away from Tina Roth Eisenberg’s (of the blog Swiss Miss) presentation – when she talked about the “8 Rules To Live By” – I especially liked rule #3 “Trust Your Intuition”! Something I am working hard on and have had to and continue to do a lot of as Pins & Needles grows.

I met so many talented people – I am really in a moment of inspiration and can’t wait to apply this to Pins & Needles – what perfect timing: my Fall semester stats next week!!!!

I want to send out a HUGE Thank you to The Alt Team and Bing for organizing such a powerful event and, of course, the people at Martha Stewart for hosting and to all of the other amazing sponsors that participated– I certainly walked away with so many new ways to use social media – now I better get busy putting it to use.

Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones to find an extra ticket for January’s big event!
If you are interested in learning more about Alt Summit – you can check out their website. I also highly recommend their on-line classes on The Alt Channel (they have classes on how to use Pinterest, graphic design on-line and writing) as well as their blog – so much interesting stuff!

What a great event! I attended BlogHer at the beginning of August and started hearing chatter about Alt soon after. Your recap is great and sounds like it was spot on for where your business is heading. Hope to make it if they run another NYC mini-Alt next year!
